About
At The Nostos Project, we understand the frustrations many Greeks from the diaspora feel when they want to visit their patrida Greece - either for a week or to return permanently. Coming from countries like the United States or Australia, the process of obtaining citizenship or a visa, as well as simple everyday tasks - such as opening a bank account or buying a car - can become tedious and time-consuming. Despite all this, we believe that Greece is the perfect place to be - and that it truly needs us! And after all, we have the know-how to make all of this easier.

The modern state of Greece was born into debt - it has suffered many catastrophes causing mass emigration - most recently the financial crisis of 2010s which caused a huge ‘brain drain’ as many professional and educated Greeks left again to live abroad. But NOW is the time to return! There has never been a better moment to live in Greece. There are huge tax incentives and the Greek government desperately need more labour and so are trying to import workers from other countries.
In the past, you and your ancestors left Greece as the situation was bad, you and your ancestors had adventures and became rich in experience and treasures like Odysseus - but now is the time to tell the story of your nostos to your grandchildren back in Greece!
Meet the team
The Nostos Project was founded by Sebastian Arvanitakis in 2026. Seb was born and educated in the United Kingdom but is the 7th continuous generation of his family to have lived in Athens - his first ancestor building a house there in 1840s. His family originated in Crete but moved to the Ionian Islands after the Ottoman conquest of Crete in the 17th century, where they served successively as politicians and diplomats under the Venetians, French, Russians, British, and later the modern Greek state. Members of his family emigrated to South Africa, US, Egypt, Canada, Germany and the UK.
Seb returned to Athens in 2021 and, as a Greek from the diaspora, felt ethnically Greek but culturally foreign. Meeting many others like him in Athens and around the world, he noticed the need for a like-minded community. He believes passionately in the future of Greece and wants to assist as many other Greeks from the diaspora as possible to return home. He lives between London and Athens and also runs an educational business preparing international families for British school and university applications.
Panagiota is a core member of The Nostos Project.
She was raised in Athens, a city where her family has lived for over a century, yet her roots stretch across the diverse landscapes of the broader Greek world. Early encounters with the French - Greek community during her undergraduate years gave her another perspective - seeing Greeks from abroad and foreigners, not yet familiar with life here, admire the country’s beauty while facing its slow bureaucracy, revealed both its challenges and its potential.
Professionally, Panagiota navigates at the corporate world with a science‑driven background, yet has always been drawn to arts, finding inspiration in creative expression. She seeks to find beauty in everything and appreciates the quiet value of pursuits that may seem without obvious purpose - the kind that enrich the spirit and expand what it means to be human.
She believes deeply in the promise of Greece, in the possibilities it offers, and in the understated richness of a life lived here.
